WOODVILLE

WOODVILLE, Aug. 10. Z\[r and Mrs W. McCarthy, of Woodville. are on a visit to A nek land. Mr J. Bennett is visiting Auckland. .Mr J. S. Lawrence, foreman of the Woodvillo Borough Council, has received a position with the Public Works Department and leaves Woodville at the end of this week. Mr E. F. Nicholson, of the Woodville railway staff, has received notification of his transfer to Taurnarunui. A twenty-first birthday party of local interest was celebrated in Auckland on Saturday, when Mr John Richards, son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Richards, Woodville, was entertained at the homo of Mr C. Richards, Mangero. Amongst those present were Mies M. Richards (sister) and Mr J. Bennett., of Woodville.

Tho August meeting of the Woodville County Council was attended by Mr M. 0. Grainger (chairman), Crs IS. D. Cattanach, H. T. Mabey, G. Peebles, O. H. Drncc, and J. Galloway. Tho Inspector of Health (Mr S. B. Reed) submitted a report for the quarter ending Juno 30 wherein ho stated that three cases of scarlet fever bad been reported in the county, there being no other ca-ea of infectious diseases for tho period. The N.Z. Counties’ Association advised that it was propos'd to proceed with the formation of a County Council Industrial Union of Employees at the forthcoming conference and cadi county was asked to authorise its deiogate to support the formation of such a union.— It was decided to support the request and as the chairman would bo unable to attend the conference, Cr Peebles w'aa appointed to represent tho council. Cr Galloway drew attention to a bridge in bis riding on the Herctnunga Road whirh required attention.—The engineer advised that they were awaiting delivery of some pipes and the bridge w'ould be attendod to. Gr Galloway remarked cn straying cattlo on Freelands Highway. The school bus traversed tho road and the ranger should make a visit to the vicinity.
