PAHIATUA
PAHIATUA, Aug. 9. Mesdames R. Merric and G. Jones are visiting Christchurch. A social and dance was held under the auspices of the Pahiatua branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association recently. Vocal solos were given by Mrs A. H. Bick, Miss Blackman and Mr Moore, of Dannevirke, and a recitation by Mr D. Moriarty. A committee comprising Mesdames S. Macrae, L. D. Lovelock, A. H. Bick, M. Moriarty and C. S. Carrad served supper. The guests were the members of the Pahiatua Borough and County Councils. A presentation, marking the 21st anniversary of the Now Zealand R.S.A., of an illuminated address, expressing the association’s appreciation of the services rendered to tne association by the citizens of Pahiatua and district during and since the Great War, was made to the councils. The Mayor (Mr J. D. Wilson) and the county chairman (Mr A. W. Bisset) received the addresses on behalf of their respective councils. Gunner A. Fullford presented a Union Jack to the association. The M.C. was Mr J. T. Paget and the old-time dance music was played by Mr P. Jackson. accompaniste was 'Miss D. Burt. A golf team from the Pahiatua Club visited .Makomako over the week-end-to engage in a friendly game. Makomako won 7 singles to 6 and secured 6 four-ball wins against one. A Bush miniature rifle representative team visited Masterton on Saturday, when a match was shot against Wairarapa. The home side won by 50 points, the totals being 1950 and 1900.
