RACEHORSE MALA.
SOLD FOR £7OOO. Received August 10, 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 10. H. E. Russell has sold Mala to Mr Alan Cooper for £7OOO subject to a veterinary examination to-day. Although the price being paid for Mala is dwarfed by the £IO,OOO Mr Cooper Eaid for Talking, few thoroughbreds ave realised bigger figures in Australia. H. E. Russell, owner and trainer of Mala, brought an action in the Supremo Court against the Commissioner of Road Transport and Tramways to recover £3OOO damages owing to injuries to Mala, when it was struck by a tram on Derby morning, October 3. Russell won the case and was’ awarded £ISOO damages. Mr J. Cassidy, who was appearing for Russell, claimed that Mala injured a fetlock and legs as the result of which his chances of winning the A.JiC, Derby ana subsequent Sydney and Melbourne classic events, also the Great Northern Derby in Now Zealand, wore seriously prejudiced. The mishap, Mr Cassidy contended, was Srimarily due to the exccssivo spoed of 10 tram. .
