V DEFENDED BY H. W. AUSTIN. Received August 9. 9.20 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 8. H. W. Austin, . the tennis player, addressing Hull Rotarians, said lie had received much abuse, chiefly by letter, because he wore shorts. “Long trousers for tennis are foolish,” lie said. “Tennis to-day is a strenuous game. 1 see no reason why players should go on tiie courts as if they were going to a garden fete.”
