CONTROL OF AIR LINES.
AMERICAN IN AUSTRALIA. BIG MERGER INTENDED. Received August 9. 10.5 a.m. LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8. Mr Eric Cliaseling, who is engaged in a technical survey on behalf of Australian air lines, when interviewed .by the Australian Associated Press, said he believed that the reported attempt of American capital to control the Australian air lines would not succeed. The American syndicate was represented in Australia by a Denver mining man, Mr Seth Terry. It is rumoured that the Americans propose to buy a majority of the stock in Australian air lines, including Qantas, Empire, Australian National, MacRobertson, Miller and Guinea Airways, merging them into a single company. A cable on Saturday said: —The belief prevails in banking circles that Pan-Amc-rican Airways are one of the principal backers of the Australian inter-capital aviation scheme “in order to provide a do mcstic link-up with the Pacific service." The principal officials of Pan-American Airways refuse to comment, but the New York office said it was without confirmation. Hie National City Bank categorically denied any connection, financial or otherwise, with the enterprise.
