TANGIMOANA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TANGIMOANA. Aug. 6. The monthly meeting of the Tangimoana Ladies’ Progressive Club was held yesterday when the president (Mrs A. D. Scott) presided. Also present were Meedarnos Nelson Scott (vice-president). H. J. Kirkham (troasurer), ’l’. E. Devine, M. J. Birkenshaw, Miss M. Quirke, and Mrs A. S. Carkeek (secretary). The treasurer reported that aa a result of the club’s recent effort a substantial deposit has been made to the club’s account at the hank, which was now growing well towards tho cost of the proposed tennis courts, which is the object in view, and it is the sincere wish that before tho season commences the courts will he an established fact The meeting acknowledged assistance to the club from several people. It is the intention so soon as .tho site for the courts is determined by the Hands Department to commence tho preliminary work of levelling it. . The monthlv meeting of the Tangimoana hranch of the Labour Party was held on Wednesday evening, Mr A. Carkeok presiding. After the usual formal business was disposed of the district organiser. (Mr Bowater) gave a resume of the party’s activities in the district, and with Mr K. Coeklnirn a general discussion was entered into regarding tho proposed new boundaries and general branch business. The fourth of the series of euchre parties for the benefit of the school funds was fairly well attended. The prizes went to Mr A. Carkeok and Mrs Birkinshaw. There was a great trek to Palmerston North for tho Snringbck football match and the elder pupils of tho school, together with their teacher, were conveyed to Palmerston North by the kindness of Mr Nelson Gray who lent his ear. Whitebait are reluctant to show themselves and as yet ' fry few have . appeared on the breakfast table so far this season. Much regret is felt that Miss Boniface has had to enter the Palmerston North Hospital and hor friends wish her a speedy recovery.
Air A. Alsop lias left Tangimoana. and is now residing at Hastings. The friends of Mrs G. Alson, his mother, will regret to learn that she is at present suffering from an attack of influenza and hope she will havo a speedy recovery.
