WEEK-END MATCHES. NAPIER BEAT MANAWATU. Sending a strong team, the Manawatu Golf Club challenged the Napier Golf Club for the Wilson Cup at the week-end, the holders, however, retaining possession of the trophy by eight games to four. In the interclub singles the Napier Club won 16 games against Manawatu’s 6, and in the four-ball section Napier won seven games and Maiiawatu three, one being halved. In the most important singles match of the day J. P. Hornabrook, the holder of the New Zealand amateur title, met Hobbs, who beat B. M. Silk in a Wilson Cup match with the Wanganui Golf Club. Hornabrook went out in 31 and did the round in 70, having a decisive winning margin. The details of the individual games are as follow, Maiiawatu players being mentioned first in each instance: Wilson Cup. Hornabrook beat Hobbs, Goodwin lost to Crosse, Chapman, beat Troutbeck, Ingham beat Davies, Rapley lost to Sinclair, Druce lost to Harrison, Rodden beat Morris, Greenbank lost to Kawke, AVinks lost to Home Douglas, Lewis lost to Fryer, Ongley lost to Lawry, Smith lost to Worker. Napier 8 wins, Manawatu 4 wins. Inter-club match.—Singles : Moore lost to Kettle, Graham lost to Geddis, McCaskill beat AVilliams, Taylor lost to Dalgleish, Davys lost to Simpson, Clayton lost to Wylie, AVimsett lost to Tizard, Priest lost to Simpson, Grant beat Becker, Maule lost to Grant. MEDAL ROUND AT HOKOAYHITU

The August medal handicap was played at the Awatapu links of tho Palmerston North Club at the ?ek* end, the course being in excellent condition. The following were the best cards returned, net scores: J AV. Denby, P. M. Moran 68,. E. k Fleming, S. C. Toon 70, A. G. Richards 71, D. Harkness, A. G. Bailey 74, C. J. AValsh, AV. B. King 75. The final of the Essex-Fletcher Trophy competition, in which there was considerable interest, resulted in a win for R. Elliot and Mrs C. Anderson. Members are now being. asked to enter their names for the T.T. trophy. HOLE IN ONE. AV. L. Birnie enjoyed the honour ol holing in one when playing on Hie Hokowhitu links at the week-end. He used a brassie for the AVillows (ha yards), the ball making a straight line for the hole. His opponent had used a No. 2 iron, sending a splendid ball away. __
