ASHHURST.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Aug. 6. At the monthly meeting of the Ashhurst School Committee the following were present: Messrs M. P. AVilkin (chairman), R. D. Davis (secretary), \V. Drummond, E. B. Tunnicliffe, and the headmaster (Mr R. N. Finlay). The headmaster reported that there wero 114 pupils on tho roll, showing an average attendance of 105. A new basketball bad been purchased for the girls and a Rugby ball bad been donated, thanks being expressed to the donor. Two board members. Messrs Mudford and Batchelor, had visited the school and the opportunity was taken for them to present the agricultural certificates to the winners of the Bchool plots competitions. Miss Marie „VVilkin is spending a holiday at Wellington. The monthly meeting of the Ashhurst Methodist Ladies’ Guild was held in the vestry, and presided over by tho president (Mrs C. A. Foston). There was a very good attendance of members and friends. Mrs Foston extended a very warm welcome to Mrs Snell, who has recently come to tho district. Mrs C. E. Taylor, of Feilding, gave a very interesting talk on mission work in the Islands, and the sacrifices which those who aro at work among tho natives have made. Mrs Foston passed a vote of thanks lo Mrs Taylor for her visit on such a stormy afternoon. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mcsdamesi Tunnicliffe and Finlay.
