THE TOWN’S INDUSTRIES.
At a meeting of members of the Chamber of Commerce last evening the secretary (Air G. J. Fitzpatrick) gave an address on Feilding’s secondary industries, relating particulars of the numbers of men employed by local firms, with the total amounts of wages and salaries paid out by these companies every year. The total was shown to be well over £IOO,OOO. and the importance of these industries to the business people of Feilding was emphasised. The speaker said there were three ways in which Feilding’s growth and importance would he helped, mainly by closer settlement on the farming land; adding to the attractions of the town so that people retiring from active work should be enticed to build their homes here; and the establishment of further secondary industries. Alembers discussed these matters generally, and suggestions were advanced as to how the borough should be made more attractive.
Tlio need for loyalt- to the town by its own residents wa.s given particular attention.
Mr A. J. Humphreys presided over a small attendance of members.
