SEVERE EARTHQUAKES.
TWO IN QUICK SUCCESSION. ALARM ON WEST COAST. (Par Press Association.) WESTPORT, April 30. Two severe earthquakes ill quick succession occurred at 10.33 to-night. Some of the big buildings fairly rattled with the quakes and members of the post and telegraph sta.ff made a hasty exit from the building and were loath to return until they were sure the shakes were completely over. GREYMOUTH, April 30. Earthquake tremors lasting about a dozen seconds were _ felt here tonight at 10.32, the direction apparently being east to west. Tho tremors were very even, none. l>eing sharp. CHRISTCHURCH, April 30. At 10.32 to-night two or three sharp earthquake shocks were felt in the city. The tremors were from east to west. It was tho heaviest ’quake since Christmas Day, 1922. BLENHEIM, May L : A double earthquake shock occurred at 9.35 last night, followed au hour later by a more severe shock,; No damage has been reported. A slight shake was felt, in Palmerston North shortly after half-past teq o’clock last night.
