SHOOTING SEASON.
MANY SPORTSMEN .OUT. ABUNDANCE OF GAME. “I think that most of the local sportsmen were out this, morning;, ” said Mr R. V. Lloyd, secretary of the local branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, when conversing .with a reporter to-day on the opening of the shooting season. Recently, Mr Lloyd informed the “Standard" that game was abandam in the Manawatu this season and h< prophesied a most successful season foi shootists. The weather this morning he commented, was quite favourubu and he Was aware that numerous gut' parties had left for the coastal lagoon: and the haunts of chicks about tht district. It. -was. probable that there would be a moderate amount 'of shooting along the Manawatu river, but as the water was low he did noi; expect that a great deal of game would be secured there. Up to noon yesterday, lie stated, the local post office officials had issued some 60 licenses, which wag about the’ normal number applied'for locally by the open* iug of the season.
