STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd., report: —At tho Tuihape cuttle fair on the 23rd inst., about 1000 head of cattle were submitted to auction. Wo offered about 430 head, tho bulk consisting of males and of exceptionally good quality. During the early part of tho sale bidding was very lagging, consequently a good many lines were passed in. However, before leaving the yards wo disposed of practically the whole of our entry at very satisfactory prices and wo report a very good sale at tho following prices:—Fat and forward P.A. bullocks, £9, 4 and 6-year bullocks (fair condition), £8 10s; 2£-year Hereford and Hereford S.II. bullocks (good) £8 ss; others, £6 to £7 ss; straight line of 100 20-month P.A. steers, £5; better sorts, £5 12a 6d; fat cows (light), £5; forward cows, £5 10s; cows with calves, £3 10s to £4 10s; old and inferior cows, at late rates.
Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on tho Taihape cattle fair as follows: —Thera were about 1100 head yarded, the majority of which were well bred good conditioned cattle. Our yarding comprised 500 head, the majority of which wero sold at tho following prices. 4-year bullocks, £7 10s to £8 ss, smaller do., £6 5s to £7; 20month P.A. steers, £5 10s to £5 16s; 2Cmonth Hereford do., £5 3s; empty Hereford heifers, £3 14s; 2j-year P.A. heifers rw.P A. bull, £4 11s; weaner heifers, 355 ; fat cows, £4 19s ro £7; store cows, oGs; bulls to £4 2s 6d; a good line of 150 20-month P.A. stcors realised £5 10s.
Dalgetyand Co., Ltd., Palmerston North, report having held a eatlle fair at. Taihapo on Wednesday, the 23rd inst., when a fair yarding of cattle came forward to a representative attendance of buyers. Bidding at auction was not animated, but we report a total clearance at satisfactory prioes of all lines passed nt auction. We quote as follow:—Dairy weaner steers small 17s, b.f. P.A. cross weaner heifers £2 10s, 22year Hereford cross empty heifers £4 14s, 2j-year P.A. cross empty heifers £4 Bs, 2jyear S.II. cross empty heifers £3 12s, store cows £3, £3 6s to £3 12s, cowe with calves at foot £3 2s, £3 8s to £4 3s, 4-year bullocks, store condition £6 Is, forward condition 4 and 5-year bullocks £97 2s 6d. Levin and Co., Ltd., have recoived tho following cable from their I.iondon agents, dated 24th April, 1925: "Frozen meat quotations (prices on a delivered basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, tolls, etc.) : —Down iambs, 28 to 42 lb, 12d per lb; best North Island, 28 to 42 lb, 113 d; ordinary North Island, 28 to 42 lb, ll§d; second quality lambs, ll£d; best North Island wether cheep, 48 to 64 lb, 84d, 64 to 72 lb, 6§d; ordinary, 48 to 64 lb, 8d; North Island ewes, 43 to 64 lb, 61d, 64 to 72 lb, s£d; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160 to 220 lb, nono offering. As compared with last week’s quotations, lamb is £d per lb dearer and mutton is id per lb cheaper. Tho market for lamb is firm with a good demand.” WHEAT CARGOES. LONDON, April 25. Probably the first lamb this season was born on the farm of Mr Alex. Struthers, Railway road, Hastings, one day last week. The normal time (states an exchange) is towards the end of May, and this early lamb must have put up something of a record.
