SENTENCE COMMUTED.

LONG TERM OF lAIPRISONAIENT. AIELBOURNE. April 22. The State Cabinet has commuted to imprisonment for a long term of years the death sentence passed on William Patrick Afarshall. —Press Association. Afarshall, a contractor, was charged with attempting to cause poison to be administered to his wife Agnes, with intent to murder. The police alleged that Afarshall insured his wife’s life for £2OOO on January 25, and two days luter took her to a dqctor who prescribed for her. She took the medicine at first without any ill effect, but on February 2 she became violently ill and was sent to hospital, where she recovered, but after taking another dose of medicine on February 6, while in hospital, she was again violently ill from poisoning. An analysis of the medicine , showed that poison had been added. When Marshall’s homo was searched a bottle containing the poison in question was found in a drawer.
