LONDON, Oct. 5,
General Stoessel's army order gives Colonel Iram's report of' the- fight on the high hill, the loftiest portion of the Itshan fortifications.
The Japanese, after a ghastly carnage, captured the outer earthworks at the foot of the hill.
Colonel Irani sent Lieut. Pogorsky's squadron of mounteds, armed with deadly pyroxyne, at one o'clock in the morning, who rode up and exterminated all the occupants and damaged the machine guns. Pogorsky led a charge personally, and hurled several bombs loaded with 18 pounds of pyroxyne. Information from other sources states that no quarter was given and none was asked.
The Russian casualties were 2000.
Kurolri is fifteen miles from Mukden,
. Several Hamburg-American steamers are conveying coal to Aden, Zanzibar and Singapore for the Baltic fleet.
SYDNEY, October 0.
The Consul has received a cable denying the report that the Russians have burnt seventeen junks with Japanese ammunition.
What happened was that a small force of Russian cavalry were discovered burning' native. junks on the Hun-ho, and they were compelled to desist by the Japanese fire from both banks of the river.
