Concert, at Ashurst.

The secoud concert iv aid of St. Mary's Church, Ashurst, was held last evening m the local, schoolhouse. aud passsed off very successful It, though the audience was rather smaller tuan at the former concert. The programme was gone through with great spirit. The concert commenced with a duett admir ably played on the. piano by the Misses Selby, which . was followed by a wellrendered Songj ''King of the Ocean," by Mr W. Bray. Miss Selby. then received a well-merited encore for her singing of " Home, Sweet H#me." The duett, "As it fell upon a day," was carefully given by Mr and Mrs Watson. Mr Robert Whibley then sang, "The Storm," m his usual effective style, and Miss flylton gave a pianoforte eolo with taste and finish. Miss Grace Bray next delighted the audience with singi'iif " The blind girl to her harp," for which she received a vociferous encore. Mr Watchorn's song, "As welcome as the flowers m May," was highly appreciated. The first part of the concert was brought to a close by the gong by Mr Watson, "The yeoman's wedding," and " Killarney," given with great sweetncsß by Mist? Ada Bray. The second part was opened by Miss Boylan, with a piano forte solo, tho brilliant rendering of which showed the lady to be a perfect mistress of the instrument. Miss Gra;e Bray again delighted her audieuce by the singing of " Jessie's Drtam," which | was encored, and was followed by the trio, "The Wreath," by Miss Selby, Mr Watson, and Mr Robert :Whibley. Mr Taylor the« gave "once again," and ;was followed by Mrs Wutson, whose voice was heard to great ad vantage) in thn song. -"The messenger jSwallow." > " Sweet love, arise," by Mr Robert Whibley, was followed by "Yesterday," which was rendered m good. style by Miss Ada Bray. "'The Btorm fiend," by-Mr W. Bray, was well received, and 'admirably - suited that gentleman's fine voice. The second I part was then brought to a dose by the excellent rendering by Miss Selby of "My beautiful Rhine." The Rev Mr I Copinger, after thanking the audience for their attendance and attention, then presided at the piano and played " God s&ve the, Qneen," which was heartily joined mby all present. The concert was a decided success m respect of merit, and the manner m which the local singers one and all acquitted themselves, plainly proved that there is no absence of musical talent m the residents of the township.
