South Sea Island News.
(united pbess association ) j Auckland, Wednesday. The following news arrived by the Island trader Janet Nicoll :— Everything at the Islands is dull. Native affairs are quiet, there having been no disturbance of any kind since last reports. The French schooner Flora, previously reported ashore near Barotonga, haft become a total wreck. No lives were lost and the whole of the cargo was saved before the vessel broke up. The Flora belonged to the Society Commercials of Tahiti. The barque Rebella, from Sydney, bound for Tahiti, came into the latter place with 6ft of water m her hold, having sustained severe damage m a hurricane. The captain of the vessel had jumped overboard and was rescued, but afterwards went mad and died. The barque was surveyed, and was to be sold by public auction on the day the ijanet Nicoll left Tahiti. The American man-of-war Mohican was on her way to Samoa for the purpose of making inquiry into recent disturbances there.
