At a meetiug of the Christcburch Presbytery held to-day, a resolution was passed thanking the Premier for his courteous and exhaustive reply to the memorials of the Auckland and Christchurch Presbyteries respecting the New Hebrides, and a committee was appointed to consider the subject, Dunedin. "Wednesday, j At Lawrence, some Chiuese were fined sums ranging from £20 to £30 for playing fan tan. Auckland, Wednesday. The Tainui left for Wellington and Southern ports with part of her original cargo and passengers. A number of her firemen had been drinking ashore, and four reached the end of the wharf just as she had left. Two leaped into the sea to swim to the steamer. A water- . man named Bradley, m his boat picked them up, and placed them on board somewhat sobered. The two other firemen borrowed a boat and pulled a great race to catch the Tainui off the Railway wharf, the steamer having to make a round turn before getting there, but did not succeed. They returned disconsolate.
