(united press association.) ; Christ-church, Tuesday. A petition haying been presented to the Governor, praying that the Lyttelton Orphanage may be constituted a separate* institution, the opponents of the proposals are now circulating a counter petition asking that the institution may remain under the control of the Oharitable Aid Board. At the inquest on the body of William Stoupe, grocer, who died suddenly las* night, the evidence showed that the deceased had been almost continually drunk for several months. He ,fell into a drunken stupor yesterday afternoon and never awoke. A verdict of death from intoxication was returned. This afternoon the Committee of th» West Coast Bailway League decided' to continue its efforts until the information as regards a. syndicate and company ia absolutely confirmed, and the actual work of constructing the railway begun. The Committee also decided that it waa advisable to postpone any demonstration for the present. Dunedin. Tuesday. J. Campbell, headmaster of the Stats) School, Clinton, died suddenly last night*
