The British warships Satllite and Heroine landed a brigade of seamen to aid in suppressingthe fire.but explosures of kerosene stored by Chinese storekeepers, in violation of the law, frustrated their efforts. Dynamite was used to blow up houses in order lo arrest the progress of the fire.
