MR DARGAVILLE AT AUCKLAND.
Auckland, Tuesday. I
Mr Dargaville, M.H.R., addressed a crowded meeting of his constituents in St. James' Hall -hat night, he wai eordi* ally received. For a session and a half he had supported the present Ministry, but Sir Julius Vbgel's tariff proposals of last session, bis proposals with reference to what was called an assured finance for local bodies, and finally his efforts on behalf of Meisfg's and Co.'s proposals respecting the East and West Coast Railway, left him no alternative but to sever his allegiance with the Stout- Vogel Government, which he did openly and formally so, that his constituent! ~ might know all about it. He referred to the recent loan proposals, and com* mended the Premier for his expressed, determination to restrict borrowing. Hi praised Mr Ballance's Native policy, and referred to Captain Russell's amendment of last session by which he said I party feeling was gratified at the expense of the Colony. He spoke strongly and at length against the property tax, ; and in favor of a land and income tax, and declared himself in favor of th» abolition of plural voting. He would even go to the length of refusing supplies to any Ministry which would not give an unmistakeable assurance that a Representation Act would be passed before a dissolution of Parliament. Het would go to Wellington a frge agent a§, far as party ties were concerned. He received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
