Sometimes complain tg are heard that fanning does not pay nowadays. It is acknowledged says the Taranaki News that flock raising is not so profitable as it fonuely was, but dairying is quite a different matter and it is the dairy farm that has now the greatest advantage. An evening or two ago an unpretending, hard working farmer sat down al the dinner table of an hotel m town, and, the conversation turning on dairying, he gave his decided opinion that it was tlio most profitable. He uot only gave hit opinion, but backed it up by producing a cheque for £108 which, he said, he had got that day for four months' produce of his butter from his farm. As he has no lubour to pay, his family doing all that is required, it can be readily seen that ho is rapidly growing wealthy. Dairy farms, well managed are indeed, most profitable ; and this district being peculiarly a dairying one it is certain to make rapid progress m the near future.
