The Late Mrs Fitzgerald.
The late Mrs Gerald G. FitzGerald, who was wrecked m the Taiaroa and drowned, having been a member of St. Mark's Church, Wellington, a memorial service was held there oq Sunday night/ The incumbent, the Rev Mr Coffay, preached an impressive sermon suitable to the occasion, taking for his text, St John VIII., 51, " If a man keep my word he shall never see death." Speaking of the deceased lady,the Rev gentleman said that, at 8 o'clock on the Sunday morning of the Taiaroa leaving the Queen's Wharf a service was held at the church, and at half-past eight o'clock Mrs FitzGerald performed one of her last acts by going to the Lord's table, and thus, as it were, reminding Christ of his own words, "Whosoever sateth my body, and driuketh my blood, shall have eternal' life." Before that hour the following morning she was before the Lord's Throne. Although the service of the Church could not be said over her remains, yet the spiritual body wonld one day be found. The Rev gentleman concluded . by asking the congregation to join m a short memorial service, and thus revive a very eld and catholic spirit. The organ having played the •' Dead March '" from Saul, the Rev Mr Ceffey read a portion of the burial service, beginning with, " I tm tha Resurrection and the Life, saith the Lord Jesus Christ." The 399 th hymn, " When onr heads are bowed with woe," the 289 th hymn, "Days and moments quickly flying," and ; the 39th psalm, were given by the choir. The impressive sermon concluded with tho benediction.
