The Wellington Manawatu Rail way.

MrGalvin, on the~staff of the New Zealand Times, was " m Palmsrston on Thursday evening. Iv the course of conversation with him, he informed us that he was a- passenger by a specia train which left the Wellington and Mannwatu Railway Station that morning at 9 o'clock, fur tha purpose of conveying tha director! of the company and the members of the Government over the whole oxtoflt of tho line to Pnltnerston North, and to enable them to inspect the country through which the line passes. Mr Ballauce, who had intended to be present, was detained at Gisborne, and various causes prevented the other Ministers from taking part m tho trip. The only excursionists were — Messrs Wallace, Q. V. Shannon, and several visitors to the Wanganui encampment, together with special reporters from the Evening "Post and the New Zealand limes. The party reached Paikakairiki before 11 o'clock. Mr Galvin enjoyed the trip very much. ■ He had to ride on horseback a distance of about five niileß between Otaki and Palmerston. He left by the evening train for lfoxton, at which place he would catch tha Tui,and would probably reach Wellington by 9 a.m. yesterdaj', or 24 hours for the return journey. Of course when the railway is running, it will be less fatiguing to go to Wellington and back m the one day by rail than to Wanganui and back. Mr Galvin considers it is a moral certainty that the line will be open throughout the whole distance by the end of the present year, and from Palmerston to Otaki the month after next.
