COLONEL BURLEIGH.
Colonel Burleigh, who accompanied the Soudan expedition ai correspondent of tho Daily Telegraph] was presented at Glasgow on February 17th with a clock and statuette and purse containing £300. While the Committee charged with the presentation were calling upon Colonel Burleieh a aheriff'a officer appeared with a warrant, claiming all the preterits from the Chairman on : behalf of Mr <Tag?, against whom Colonel Burleigh had brought an action for i slander, the suit being ah ontcome of the late electoral campaign . Mr Tagg brought a counter-action, and both cases are now pending. Mr Tstrg's intention to secure-possession of the presents had become known m some way, aud they had been given to Burleigh m prirate. When the sheriff's officer appeared the) Colduel, .holding the purse aloft, declared he had a good grip on it and intended to keep it . The Committee thereupon, cheered the Colonel, and wound up the meetiugby singing " He's a jolly good fellow."
