A Maori horse thief, named Charles Spain, who has been wanted for some time was arrested at Cape Egmont on Sunday. He drew a knife on the arresting constable. Mr Pringle bought 3 Rections on Rangitikei Line at the Foxton land sale on Saturday for 4!270. The total financial results of the whole sale were under £600, and included sections m Palmerston, Bunnythorrje, Opunake, Sanson, and Foxton. I The two sales effected of Palnaer9ton land were more than half of the whole proceeds of the sale. 10 acres m Bunnythorpe brought i? 4 0; sections m Sanson from £10 upwards, and m Foxton from £8 upwards. At the half.yearly meeting ot Foresters, last night the following officers were elected :— C.R., Bro. J. J. Lee ; S.C.R.. Bro. T. Ttace ; Secretary, Bro. Keeling ; Treasurer, Bro. White ; S.W., Bro. Keo. lar ; J.W., Bro. Granfield ; 5.8., Bro. F. Hall ; J. 8., Bro. Templeton. The local paper says that m Waipawa recently a thermometer being m the shade on a verandah registered 100 degrees at mid-day. It would appear as if the sun wag " over the yard-arm " at any rate. The new Mayor of Wellington (Mr A. W. Brown) has recently been strongly urged by influential persona to 4< come out " as a candidate for the South Wellington seat m the next Parliament. Mr Brown, however, has refused, and it is understood that he has no intention whatever of seeking the suffrages of the electors at present.
