AMENDED EDUCATION ACT.

The Education Act 1877 Amendment 1885 provides that the annual meetings uf householders shall be held m April m each year instead of January, as hereto--1 ore. If a member of the School Comu ittee absents himself from meetings of the Committee without leave for three consecutive months his seat shall be declared vacant unless he has some valid excuse for such absence. If the number of members on the Committee become reduced below a quorum then the Board shall declare the seat*' vacant, and proceed to hold a fresh election. Every child must now attend 30 days m each quarter, and if proceedings are taken under this seotion by the Committee for non-attendance of any child, the onus of proof that such child is attending school shall lie on the parent or guardhm. The Act comes into force on the Ist of January, 1886.
