Some of the unemployed waited on I the Mayor asking for an increase on tho 4s 6d per day proposed to bo given to them. The Mayor informed them that he could do nothing m the matter. As the Mayor and Mayor elect p-assed the men while at tin* meeting it was expected they would address them, but thoy did not do so, and a great deal of hooting and hissing took place. It was then suggested that the Premier should be waited upon on the arrival of the express from the north and drive him round town until they got an answer regarding more work and increased pay. However, only a few were present to meet tho Pp'ini&r on the arrival of the train, and it was arranged that a deputation wait on him to-morrow.
