Napier Supreme Court Sittings.
I • (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION..) Napier. Monday. The Supreme Court sittings have been temporarily interrupted by the departure of the Chief Justice for Gisborne to hold t!io sittings there. On his return the sittings here will bu resumed. The greater part of the time was occupied by the case of Paora Kawhata v. Russell. The plaintiff claimed £13.000, being the purchase money of Captain Russell's Tunariu property with compound interest since 1870. The deeds are,all m order, but the plaintiff alleges that he never received the money from Mr ft; D. Maney, to whom Captain Russell paid it. The case was? heard by the Chief Justice without a jury, judgment being finally reserved. In the case of O'Brien v. South British Insurance Company,, his Honor, after two days' consideration, ■rave judgment for the company on all the issues, on the ground of misrepresentation as to the value and position of the hay3tacks which were burned. A special jury heard all the evidence m the case of Blackburn v. Carlile and McLean, a suit for the alleged neglect of debts when acting as plaintiff's solicitors,- but the judge had then to leave, and it was finally decided by the parties that the jury should be discharged, the whole case to be heard de novo at the next sitting of the court. ,
