Pohanglna Reefs.
By train, last night, Mr T. D. Cummins brought m from Ashurst some samples of the stone from the Pohangina reef. These do not differ m appearance froni^ th« ordinary grey stone brought by different parties from this place ; but while at Ashurst Mr Cummins saw a specimen which Mr Anderson had brought from the reef, and which show ed gold plainly to the nuked eye. Anderspn saya that the reef has been struck and good stone is beinsj taken out. We understand that Messrs Basset and Beaven have gone out to peg out a claim from which the stone tested by Mr Ba«---,set came, and so satisfied are the shareholders that they have decided, as soon as the lease is granted, to set to work at once at gefc out a lot ot stone. There is a rumour current of a good thing which another company ha<e got on, the first samples of which were procured some, six years ago from a native woman by a Wanganui business man, but with regard to this we can say nothing at present. — Herald.
