(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Blenheim, Wednesday. The steamers met af Harding's Bank,, the narrowest part of the river. The M.ohaka was lite on the tide, and the Waihi' had no reason to expect to meet her. The captains of each vessel were at their respective wheels, and a proper look-out was kept. Neither saw each other lmtil close .together, when the engines were reversed. The Mohaka sank, and m five minutea nothing was visible but her bow, masts, and, three feet of the funnel. The Mohaka crew got on board the Waihi, and returned to Blenheim. Neither captain blames the other both agreeing that it was a pure accident, caused by the willows preventing one iiseing the other till too late to avod a collision.. Both captains asked the River Board at the last meeting to clear the obstructions to navigation of which great complaints have been made for years. Th« Board intended to enforce its powers undor the Act by giving 'the owner fourteen days to cut the willows. Captain Mannings wan m charge of the Waihi and Captain Eckford of the Mohaka. The Mohaka was i««ur#<i for £460 m the ! Victoria office ; the cararo was .covered by a floating policy. The cargo consists of wool, tallow, and basils. The steamer obstructs the navigation, and must be removed, but it is doubtful if it will pay to raise her as a speculation, Eckford estimates his loss at £500,
