THE HUNTERVILLE CONTRACT,
(Advocate.) It is now more than a month since the tenders for the Hunterville section of the Central Railway closed. The Press Association informed us that nine tenders had been received several weeks ago, but there was never any information that any of the tenders, had been. acceptedAfter the reduction of £500,000 an the Public Works Estimates on the motion of Captain Russell the Te Kuiti contract," which had been advertised, was formally withdrawn m the usual way, but still there was no. hint about the Hunterville contract. "Why was this thus ?" people began to ask one another at this end of the line, and m order to solve the mystery, .Mr Bruce, ftLH.R. for Rangitikei, sent a telegram to the Minister of Public Works asking the direct question, "Is tha Hunterville contract to be gone on with ?" To this he received the following answer:— "ln reply cannot let anyfurther contracts onMarton-TeAwa-mutu line this year..
