On the other hand, the engineer, Mr Manbcal, reported to the Secretary of the American Navy tnat 70 per cent of the whole distance is yet untouched, and the work done represents less than 6 ! per cent of the total, and that the work cannot be completed for less than 275,000,000d015. and m 14 years. The project for an Australian line of steamers, conrjecting with the Canadian Pacific RailWay is still agitated.
