IRISH AFFAIRS.
One result of Lord Carnarvon's peaceful progress through Ireland has been enormous influx of tourists: to that country. Fifteen hundred from England. Scotland, and Wales landed at Dublin on August 24th. A magistrate arid 100 police went to a place near Ballyragget, County Killarnjy, on 27th August, to evict tenants. .When they arrived the chapel bell tolled, and 2000 persons assembled and attacked the officers, preventing them from accomplishing the proposed evictions. The police were compelled to chargo the inbb with bayonets, .and a fierce encounter ensued. Many on both sides were stoned and stabbed. Mr John Pollock, a magistrate and owner of large landed estates*; publicly thrashed Captain Barry, : of : the Eoyal Horso Artillery, and Mr John Albert Blakenby, Deputy-Lieutenant of County Galway,in the "streets of Dublin, on August 27, for interfering m his domestic matters. Mrs Pollock recently left har husband's house. Mr Pollock after thrashing his men, offered to "go out" with them. He is about to institute proceedings for a divorce. .
