Lecture.

Mrs E. Mnore delivered her first lecture m Pahnerston last evening:, entitled "Woman's Influence." The chair was filled by His Worship the Mayor, J. Linton, Esq. The attendance was small. The lecturess was introduced to the audience by a few well-chosen remarks from the chairman, after which she began her address, and continued to speak without rest for an hour and a quarter, during which time the lady received repeated and well-merited applause. Of the lecture itself we must say we were considerably surprised, and certainly none the less pleased, that a lady should deliver such an exceedingly brilliant address on a public platform, and also with such elocutionary powers as are not often met with even m male speakers. The subject matter of the lecture is, the Hon. Ballance says " Teeming with original thought," and we also agree with him, that it should be heard by everybody. At the conclusion of the lecture, the Mayor expressed himself highly pleased with what he had heard, and hoped that the attendance on the following evening would be largely increased, when lie would have still greater pleasure m presiding for so able and talented a lecturess as Mrs Moore had undoubtedly proved herself to be. A hearty vote of thanks was unanimously accorded to the lady, on the motion of Mr T. King, seconded by Mr St. John Watson, and the meeting separated.
