Fined 10s and costs and cautioned. CIVIL CASES. E. E. Snow -v. H. W. Baker. Judgment for plaintiff £10. Mr A. S. Baker for plaintiff, Mr Hankins for defendant. The Bench found that there was no bill of sale made out and that the arrangement entered into bctweeen the parties did not require registration and that the bailiff had erred m seizing the trap the subject of the action. Judgment for plaintiffs were given m following cases : — J. Fenton v. R. Crawford. Claim £2 11s, dishonoured cheque. J. Eashleigh v. C. Collard. Claim iJll for nursing detendant's wife. F. W.Venn v. T. Pearce. Claim £2 7s. Same v. Thomas Bush. Claim £2 Gs 3d. Same v. C. Lolenian. Claim £2 18s 6d. G. W. Russell was plaintiff m various small debt cases, the defendants being Dickel, G. Keys, Patterson, W. Moore, E. F. Charles, being for subscription -to the Manawatu Times. J. Millar v. Mokomoko (Native). Claim £4 12s sd. Same v. To Mati (Tatiye). Claim £7 13s lid. : Judgment for plaintiff, for whom Mr Hankins appeared. G. W. Russell v, W. H. R. Flyger. Claim £2 4s 6d. Judgment summons. Adjourned on application of defendant by paying costs. ' R. Alhngham v. W. Reckleben. Claim £6 Is Gel. Judgment for plaintiff for £5 6s, to be paid at £i per month. A. Ferguson v. Phillips and Waters. Claim &5 11s M. Judgment ex p'arte. M. F. Coleman v. E. Howe. Claim £1 18s 6d. To be paid forthwith, m default 2 days imprisonment. LARCENY. , Thomas Fitzgerald charged with stealing a number of articles of clothing valued at £5 16s, and 8s m cash from Ludwig M. Williamson, a shoemaker m Cuba-street. From the evidence of the prosecutor it appeared that on Saturday evening last he saw prisoner at the Clarendon ijotel. He begged him to give him a shilling for a bed, said he had walked trom Wellington, and had had nothing to eat for the last three days. Invited him to his house, and gave him something t0,., eat before going to bed. Identified the articles stolen. On awaking accused was gone ; then missed the articles, whidi he next saw m the police station. Had 10s m his pocket when going to bed, but had only 2s next morning. Constable Manning gave evidence of the arrest of the accused on Monday on tho Bunnythorpe-Kairanga Road. Ho was asleeo m a whare and had the articles with him. Examiued the swag and arrested him. Accused said he had never been m trouble before, but was not sorry he was m now, as he was sick of tramping the country. Accused made a rambling statement m which he said that the prosecutor had asked htm to shout, and had afterwards asked him to see him home, which he did. He and prosecutor had some bargaining about purchasing a coat. Next morning prosecutor offered him it and other articles for 30s. He said he was a sailor and was making his wav to Wellington m search of a ship. He did not like to travel through the town on the Sabbath, and therefore got away on Saturday night. He contended that he was not guilty of theft, but of having taken them at considerably less than their value. Admitted his statement made to the constable that he was not sorry for what he had done as he wished to have a change from tramping. Committed for trial at the next criminal sitting of the Supreme Court to be holden m Wanganui. [Left Sitting.]
