Dramatic Club.

A preliminary opon meeting to conBider tho formation of an Amateur Dramatic Society m Palmerston was held at the Club Hotel last evening. Present — Messrs Haybittle, junr., A. R. F. Johnston, E. Johnston, Mitchell, Dungan, Pirani, Jacobaon, and 6. E. Hawkins. Mr Fletcher Johnston was , jelected to the chair and after some discussion M r Haybittle moved aud Mr Pirani ; seconded that a Dramatic Society be formed. Carried unanimously. A Provisional Committee was formed consisting of Messrs Hawkins, Mitchell, Pirani, Haultain, and Healy. Mr Pirani was appointed Secretary pro tern. Decided ts have the presidentship filled at once and secure honorary members who would take an interest m the success of the Society. Mr Akers kindly offered the use of a large upstairs room and piano for practice free. Mr Haybittle sUfedtfuitMr Nathan junr. had offered to present the Society with anuinberofbookaof standard plays. A long discussion ensued ah to what form the first entertainment should take. Some were m favor of having the first part %< Minstrel " followed by a comt-dy m the 2nd part. Others were for all comedy. It was eventually decided to leave this to next meeting. It was however resolved that the proceeds of the first entertainment be m aid of the Club wardrobe and that a snbsequent one be held m aid of some local chatity. First entertainment to be given on 25th May if possible. The-, formation of an orchestra was also spoken of but left to a committee to report on by next meeting. It was decided that m future all intending members be proposed by a member of the committee. Mr Haybittle mentioned that he had a brother connected with the Wellington Dramatic Club ; he would write to htm and procure copies of rules and other information and lay before next meeting to be held on the coming Monday evening, same time and place. A vote of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close.
