THE AFGHAN TROOPS FORBEARING
AGGRESSIVE BEARING OF RUSSIAN COMMANDER. From further particulars which have transpired regarding General Lumsden'a reply to the British Government, it appears that he places considerable emphasis on the patient bearing of the Afghan troops and states the 'conflict entirely due to the aggressive action of the Bussian Commander. Sydney, April 23. The work of fittinsr out the steamship Massilialas an armed cruiser is being proceeded with here tinder the supervisionofthe Imperial Naval authorities. She will carry a crew of 120.
