CONFLICTING STATEMENTS.
WAR VOTE OF ELEVEN 1 MILLIONS.
ALL FORCES TO BE BEADY.
THE CRISIS IMMINENT,
(REUTERS' TELEGRAMS.) London, April 22. Statements were made m the Houses of Lords and Commons by Earl Gran<. ville and Mr Gladstone respectively to the effect that the Government were m receipt of General Lunisden's communications which had been addressed to him asking for a full account of the recent hostilities near Ponjdeh, but that his account differed very seriously from that supplied to the Bussian Government by General Koranroff. : In the House of Commons Mr Gladstone asked for a vote of credit of i 11 ,000,000 of which i' 4,500,000 was intended for operations m Soudan. In proposing the vote the Premier announced that the general situation of foreign affairs rendered it incumbent i
upon Great Britain to prepare all hnr forces. The Government were not preoared to abandon operations at present being conducted m Egypt, but reserved full liberty of action m future. The Indian troops now m Egypt, Mr Gladstone added, would prove sufficient to hold Suakim, the British forces being reserved for any emergency that might arise.
