The Gorge Railway.
[Wellington Paper.] A gentleman who has lately come through the Manawatu George informs as that the survey of the line, ; which will be about four and a half miles m length, has heen completed, and that the surveyors are now busily preparing the plans. There will be two tunnels, one of about 30, and the other 10 chains m length. The cutting will be somewhat similiar to the Rirautaka, but as the Manawatu River flows underneath the Gorge line, there will be n<> difficulty whatever In getting rid of the debris. Contractors and other experts m such wotks state that the line will not. m all probability, cost more than £10,000 to £12,000 per mile. The plans are likely to be completed m a few weeks. The remainder of the surveys between Woodville and the Napier section are also finished. The Tamaki section of the Napier- Woodville line will stop at Har.ling's-road, about two or three miles the other side of Woodville. It is to be hoped that the works necessary for the connection of the ; lines will be pushed on with all possible speed. When the Gorge line is constructed, excursionists will hay« a sight wcrth looking at. The scenery is some of the must beautiful m New Zealand.
