A telegram has been received from the Governor of Bombay, asking if by next mail 34,00'01bs of corned beef could be sent. Mr Playford is arranging the purchase. Sydney, March 24. ' Preparations are being made for a review and demonstration, when Volunteers will man batteries all along the shores, and repel attacking fleet represented by Wolverine, from seaward. The Government are taking all precautions for the defence of the harbor. The Government telegraphed asking permission of the Admiralty to secure the services of a. naval adviser to the Government for three months. A reply has been received, and Gaptain Ackland, of H.M.S. Diamond, and Lieutenant Arnold have been appointed. . The Hon. Mr Dalley has received the following telegram from the Agent-General :—" Geueral Graham will need all his men. The Australian Contingent on arrival will .not find itself superfluous. Sorry they were not m time for the first skirmish but there will be plenty of fighting for them to share m. A letter of thanks to the Colonies has been numerously signed, headed by Lord Tennyson, the Luke of Argyle, Mr Gocchen, and Mr Forster."
