The French are much incensed at the action taken by M. Ferry m regard to affairs m Tonquin. In the tjhamber of Deputies, M.Clemencean , characterised M. Ferry's actions as ' treasonable, and a motion to that effect was tabled, but was rejected. The war grant is collapsing. The Frennh loss m Tonquin is estimated at 1500. Large crowds of Chinese are menacing the positions held by the French. Her Majesty Queen Victoria left London to-day for Aix les Bains, m Savoy, to which place she has been recommended by her medical advisers. Lord Derby has agreed to excise clause 26 of the Federation Enabling Bill, but adheres to clause 31, providing that the Council could only be enlarged at the request of the various Legislatures. Lord Derby doubts whether the Bill would be operative without New South Wales agreeing to join m. The guns for the defence of Tasmania have been shipped.
