OUR BOROUGH LOAN.
oUy our telegrams it will be seen that the Maatertou burgesses have carried the poll for a Loan of £10,000 for a ; gas supply. This fact should give courage to any faint-heaitcd and timorous ones among our residents. Palmerston must some day occupy a far more important position thau Masterton can ever hope to do. Recent visitors to. the latter township aver that of the two places Palmerston is incomparably m advance of Masterton, and is bound to progress at a much more rapid rate m the early,f uture. It would be a great thing for the place to have a gas supply! We do not consider, however, ; that lighting is nearly so important as drainage, sewerage, and water supply. ; The latter are absolutely indispensable to health, especially m our town ; whereas the former is only an accessory, though a most valuable one, to our comfort and more rapid advancement. We refer to the matter to show that .other towns are going iv for Borough Loans for necessary purposes, and to remind the public at large how essential is entire unanimity on their part when the question of the Loau is put to the final test of the poll of the ratepayers. ;
