HORTICULTURAL SHOWS.
It is without doubt a reflection on Palmerston that such excellent ami creditable Horticultural Shows are held m the adjacent townships of Feilding and VVoodville, whereas m Palmerston no Society is m existence. By a correspondent of the Napier Telegraph we note that the second annual show m connection with the Woodville Horticultural and Indus'iviitl Society was held on Saturday last m the schoolroom, and passed off very successfully, the takings for the day amounting to about ±'50. The exhibits on thy whole were hotter than last year, and judging from the hearty manner m which the settlers one and all co-operate m the matter the Society appears to be a. very popular one and likely to flourish anU be of much benefit to the district. Now, surely Palmerston should hot be entirely lifeless m matters of this kind. It is an older, more populous, and also ambitious town than either of the two mentioned, yet m the matter of Horticultural Shows, it Ings behind: Almost all the townships on the Coast, Palmerston except ed, have their periodical shows, and there can be no doubt that the prosperity of the district is largely affected by similar institutions. We should; be very pleased to see an attempt made, to re-establish our defunct Horticultural Society m Palmerston, and we have no doubt under efficient management it would speedily become a piosperous and creditable local institution.
