Present — Crs. Thynne (m the chair), McLennan, Sansnn, Stewart, McKcnzie, Davis, anl Gibson. A letter from the unuVr-secretary of Justice was read, re the appointment of clerks to Licensing Committees, requesting the council to appoint a clerk tor the Kawafcawa and Orntia Licensing Committees m the place of Mr Thomson, who wished to resign. Resolved, " That the council can see no reason why the clerks of the li.M, Court cannot act as they have for years pant been able to do, without requiring further salary, beyond

The following correspondence was al«o read : — From Mr M. K. Samuels, stating that the A wahuri pound was his pro* perty, costing .£230, and applying lor rent for ihe pound m the event of any change being made. From Wanganui Borough Council, re alleged complaints m hospital management. The letter stated that there was no regular night nur.se, but when required, the custodian or one of. the assistants sat up all night with the patient. The custodian was empowered to employ extra help when necessary. As regarded invalid diet, the return enclosed showed the different quantities of invalid diet sup* plied duriu« the month of December. The diet was supplied by order of the • medical officer, but friends were at liberty to supply anything extra, provided they did not infringe on the rules respecting- spirits, etc. From Public Works Office, intimating that the following grants to the council were sull current :—Tramway, £1,350 ; Sandon-Halcombe-road, £75 ] Motoa-road, £75— total, £1,500. From Manawatu Road Board, applying for the sum of £93 12s Gd, being thu council's — viz., one-eighth of, of the sum of £749, advances by the general Government for repairs to the Awahuii bridge. Besolved, " That tenders be called, at per chain, tor metalling 1 on the A wahuri end of Carnarvou-Awahun road, to comme-ce at Fraser's corner, and extend toward*; CampMltown, the work not to exceed the balance of money available for said road."
