Important Auction Sales.

la our present issue are announced some very important auction sales, to which we will briefly alludj m detail. Commencing with the local firms we fiud Messrs Stevens & Gobton will hold quite a number of sales during the next few days. At the Borough Sale Yards, on Tuesday, the lOih iust., they will hold their monthly stock sale, for which there are already catalogued 10 head of beet, 50 steers, 113 pure-bred Romuey Marsh rams, 330 head of other classes of sheep, besi ies hordes, &c. The sale will take place at J o'clock. On Wednesday, the 11th inst., the same firm will offer some very valuable town properties m the Borough of Palinerstuu, uuloiigiug to the estate of H. VV. Bridges, Esq., which constitute some of the best building sites m the town. The sections are situated m Main, Yogel, and Raiigitikei streets, and as they are to be oiferud at very reasonable prices, the reserves being low, and on exceptionally easy terms, there should be eager competition for all of them. The various properties are more fully described m the advertisement, and all requisite particulars may be ascertained on application to Mr A. R. F. Johnston, solicitor, or to the auctioneers. The sale will begin at 2 p.m. sharp. On Friday, the 13th inst., the same firm will hold their great annual stock sale at the Oroua Downs Homestead. The vendors will be Messrs McLennan, (on behalf of the Hon. R. Campbell,) and F. B. Larkworthy, two well-known breeders, the stock from whose runs, being bred with great care, are always m demand, and command high figures. There will be offered fat and store cattle' rams, fat and store sheep, draught horses and hacks. Detailed particulars now appear m a special advertisement. Wo may add that the annual stock sales at the Oroua Downs estate are year by year becoming of a more important character, to which are attracted breeders desirous of improving their flocks and herds, and buyers from all parts of the East and West Coasts. . On Tuesday the 17ih instant, the same firm will hold their annual ram and sheep fair at Bulls, which will commence at 1 p.m. sharp. The catalogue appears else? where, from which it will be seen that thu sheep to be offered will represent stock from some of the best breeders m the district. Among those we may mention the names of Messrs F. B. Larkworthy, J. G. Wilson, B. Read, R. P. Flood, Retemeyer, L. C. Richards, G. C. WheeJor, W. Pearson (Canterbury), T. Newman, Mrs Willis, Sir W. Fox, anil others. There will he offered pure-, bred Lincoln rams, Romncy Marsh rams, M.'rino rams, Liucoln ram and ewe lambs., Lincoln . ewes, Romney Marsh ewes and lambs, besides wethers, wether lambs, Limbs m wool, fat ewes and wolh. rs, breeding cu-cs, &c, &c , altogether an iiinu.-sivc catalogue. The sale will probably attract a very iarge attendance, and it ia expected will be m all respects even a greatei success thau that of last year. A special auctioneer's note says this is entirely a sheep sale. No. cattle or horses wiil be taken, ami it is requested that vendors wishing to race their sheep will come as early as possible. The yards will be open for reception of sheep at daylight. Oh Friday, 13ih February,|Mr M. R. Milleu will hold a very important, extensive and absolute sale at Mount Erin estate, Hawko's Bay, of Liuculu ewes, stud ewes, ram lambs, acd other sheep, besides draught horses and dray, implements, &c, &c. The sale will bit held at Mount Erin station yards, to which intendiug buyers will be conveyed by special coaches, starting from Hastings railway station on day of sale, on arrival of the morning train. Vary full particulars of this most important sale are given m the advertisement, from which it will be seen that an opportunity is offered of obtaining first class sheep that does not often occur. The catalogue as published comprises 650 choice 2-tooth Lincoln ewes, 1300 4-tooth ditto, 1600 6-tooth, 1700 Brtooth,8 r tooth, 500 oull«, 1200 large wedders, 350 2 tooth ewes, fiist cross ; also 300 stud ewes, 2, 4, 6, and Btocth, and 100 ram lambs. A u auctioneer's note states that the small stud flock are from Lincoln ewes, imported by Messrs McLean, of Auckland, from the celebrated flocks of \lcssrs Clarke and Vessey, Lincolnshire, England. This very important sale will commence at halt-past 12 noon. On Tuesday, the 10th instant, Messrs Bahns & Uiugik will hold their periodical stock side at TuraKiua. There aro already catalogued 2000 sheep, 15 Merino-Lincoln rams, 6 Leicester Rams, 50 head mixed cattle, 30 2-year steers and heifers. The sale will commence at 1 o'clock. On the following day, at 1 p.m., the same firm will hold their usual fortnightly stock sale at CampbolHowrn Sale Yards, Wanganui. There are already catalogued fat cows, yearling, steers, and heifers, milkers, aboat 2000 sheep, besides pigs arid horses. Buyers for several of the entries will probably be found among the settlers of these dis-. tricts. On Thursday, 19th February, Messrs T. Kbnnkdy Macdonald & Co. will sell by public auction m the hall of . the Athaiiteiim, City of Wellington, the : first area of the Wellington and Manawatn ftailwiy Company's splendid land, comprising rural sections m th.> Fitzher , bert Blocks, and allotments m the township of Linton. The sale will commence at 11 a.m., as there are so many sections to be offered, that it will take several j hours to complete the sale. The area to ; be sold m the Fitzherbert Blocks com- i prises from 18,000 to 19,000 aeivs of agricultural and pastoral lands of first dnss quality, and is conveniently situated for access from tho settled portions of the Mocks. Each section has a frontage to a road connrcted with the district road*, which lead to the railway station at Linton, seven and a half miles from Palmerston North. The township of Linton nnd suburbs comprise about five hundred and fifty acres, and is the site of the station, four miles from the junction of the company's railway with the Foxton-taranaki line. The main road through the . Fitzhorbert Block leads to tKe station and the township, and will bo ttie terminus for the traffic of the district. Tho upset prices for pistoral lands wi'l range from 20s to 30s per acre, and for Agricultural lands from 35s to 60s per acre. Small capitalists, and settlers anxious to secure a really good investment on exceptionally reasonable terms, will have >\n opportunity of doing so at this important sale which nuy not be offered them again fora long time to come. On 'Friday the 13th instant, In the exchange auction rooms, Pana-ma-street, Wellington, the same firm will offor some very valuable properties m Fitzherbert. The particulars are given m advertisements, and will be found worthy the pcrusnl of capitalists, and intending investors. The properties to be offered are probably as valuable, investments as could be found m tho whole district, ea';h possessing special advantages ot soil, siiuatinn, &c. For each there should be enger competition, as it is not every day m the year that such properties are offered by public auction. A plan can be eeen at thin riffle. The sale will begin at 2 p.m. punctually, and the bidding will probably be spirited for each property. About the beginning of March, Messrs Bkckktt, Hammond & Dick will hold a great land sale m Marlon. The sections to bo off- red are situated m the Upper Rangitikei District, ami anpart nf the.Rangatira Block. Tho an-a to, be offered will comprise about 4000 acres, comprising the Hunterville township extension, an-1 a large number of rural and suburban sections, varying from 5- t0' 320 acres, tho town jsections from a quarter acre to three acres. All the sections have frontages to well graded roads, some of which are formed and are now being metalled ; others will be l shortly cleared one chain wide. The Main Trunk .Hail way from Wellington to Auckland passes through the entire length of this block, as also the Marlnn-OUinakapua-Mnriniotu Road. The whole of the rural and suburban sections arc covered with forest, there being patches of fine totara suitable) for milling purposes. The general character of the soil is of splendid quality. A sawmill will shortly be erected on the Block. Lithographs of the. property and full particulars -will shortly be obtainable.
