Official Parsimony.

{Post) Considerable inconvenience and annoyance has been oceaai.c»M»;l throughout tlie holiday season by the unwise parsimony displayed by the Railway Department m regard to making public the special time-tables. Instead of advertfe* ing these m the newspapers, as avvy ordinary business firm would dp. ihiosirous , of attracting traffic, the department simply published, a general announcement that thaws would be special trains at. . certain fares, the advertisement, concluded with the direction. " For timetable soe posters." It is often very inconvenient to " see posters," even when these are liberally distributed, which was not the case With regard to the railway time-tables. These were not even supplied to the hotels or other places of public resort where they would naturally be looked for. People who wanted to. make their arrangements for going out of town had m tact generally tft'go down to the Railway Station ho, sea how the trains were to w^n. The inconvenience of th,fo \vfts very great, as picnic nnd Kirnjlar arrangements had often to be . made at home, and at night, when- it was impossible to go down, to the station to get' the required information. We have been inundated with complaints on the subject, and we are sure that the railway lost a great number of passengers simply through the difficulty of ascertaining when trains were to leave and when they would return. We hope the railway authorities will m future always advertise the holiday time-table, as they used to do so some time ago.-.
