Gold m Hawke's Bay.
. «, ; — - . [Napier Telegraph. [ - We hardly think the people of Hawkea Bay will get much excited over the news from Auckland concerning the alleged discovery of gold eighty v miles to the north of Napier. Allowing some margin for the compass — after the manner oi Captain Edwin—eighty miles to the northward of this town would touch Waikaremoana lake, would sweep through the wooded ranges of the Uriwera country, or would strike the Baingaroa, (or Taupo) plain. If the reported discovery were anywhere near Waikaremoana, we think we should have heard all about Mr Collins prospecting before the news reached Auckland. But if he has found the reef m the hills on the southerly boundary of the Taupo plain, it is likely that he might have gone on to Auckland, and said nothing about it, Anyhow Mr Collins will find a difficulty m forming a good-mining company until the reef has been examined by wellknown and reliable townspeople.
