Attempted Murder.
♦ ; (UNITED PBBSS ASSOCIATION.* Auckland, Jan. 5. Between 9 and 10 last evening twe pistol shots were heard at the end ol Derby-street. A man named Johr Brown, coffee stall-keeper, a negro, was discovered chasing another negro, named Thomas Brown, up Victoria-street, when he fired two more shots at him. Some of the crowd chased the assassin,but,seein£ a pistol m bis hand, were afraid to close with him. Two of the shots took effeel on Brown, one entering his chest, and the other penetrating his side. On being taken to Dr Dawson, it was discovered that one bullet was m the breast, its passage having been stopped by the breast-bone. After a little trouble it was extracted. The second bullet wound was over the first false rib on. the left side and the bullet passed through and out ai the back. John Brown was arrested ir a house m Abercroinbie-street. He made no resistance; The injured man states he and Brown had tea together at 8 restaurant, were both sober, and had n< quarrel. Brown left an hour before bin: and on coming out ot the restaurant he noticed Brown walking up and dowr m front at the corner of Derby-street anc John exclaiming "you b 1 have been waiting for you," drew a revolve] and fired. The first shot entered hii breast, the second missed, the thirc struck him m the side, and the fourtt . was fired after him as be ran up Victoria Street. The wounds are not considered dangerous unless inflammation or erysi pelas sets m.
