(TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD.) Sir, — The interest taken m the matter of quick transit between New Zealand and England by your numerous readers, induces me to offer you a few statistics relative to bcean-stepming between the places mentioned. I left Port Lyttelton on the 30th August at 3.30 p.m., and arrived m Plymouth on Thursday morning, besides coaling at Rio de Janerio, and stopping near Teneriffe, being under steam only 38 days, 10 hours, 31 minutes. By our arrival m Plymouth this steamer " Tongariro " has completed her third circuit of the globe. This has been done m 3 voyages to and from New Zealand (calling at different ports for coal) m eleven months eleven days, a feat hitherto unparralleled tn the history of ocean steaming.' In order to guarantee the veracity of these statements I may add that I was a passenger by the said steamer and further enclose a cutting from an English paper, only calling attention to the mistake of same as regards the date Sept. 11th which should be August 30th. Being lately a resident m your district I have taken the liberty to enclose the foregoing items. — I remain, faithfully yours, . James Moobe-Bowman. The Vicarage, Co wick via Selby, Yorkshire, England. London, October 17.
