Mr Locke addressed his constituents last night, Mr De Lautour being m the chair. He strongly urged an improvement m local government and the encouragement of local industries, and above all the settlement of native land difficulties by the Government ; consolidating and amending existing Acts by a Bill next session, which should more particularly affect improvements as to subdivision. A unanimous vote of thanks and confidence was awarded. j Reefton, Dec. 6. Mr A. S. Menteath, representative for Inangahua, addressed a crowded meeting at the Oddfellows' Hall, Reefton, on Saturday evening. He spoke for nearly two hours, Ins speech being on tho whole hostile to the present Government. At the conclusion of the meeting he received a vote of thanks and renewed confidence, which was carried almost unanimously. Auckland, Dec. 4. The Hon. Mr Tole has received a telegram from the Native Minister, stating that Kawhia is included m the Kingite territory, m which the sale of drink will be prohibited, and Mr Tole has so informed the temperance deputation which waited on him. A daughter of William Clarke, of Otonga, aged 2 yesrs, is missing, and is supposed to be drowned or lost m the bush. The settlers organised a search party, and have been out 24 hours.
